School Name: Argyle Elementary School, Regina
Campaign Name: Argyle School: How Much Can You Lift?
Campaign Description: We were curious to see how much CO2 we could prevent as a school from entering the atmosphere. As an environment club we came up with 8 different conservation acts that the students could perform. Each act equaled a certain amount of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. For example, turning your thermostat down 1 degree equaled 42 lbs of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. We made a contest out of it and wanted to see what student could prevent the most CO2 from entering the atmosphere so they had to recruit family members and friends to also take part and pledge to reduce their carbon footprint by doing one of the eight acts. The contest lasted for one month in duration.
Campaign Results: At the end of the contest we had over 1500 acts performed preventing 35 821 pounds or 17.5 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. That was equivalent to taking 4 cars off the road for an entire year or capturing the same amount of CO2 as 17 acres of forest or 466 tree seedlings being grown for 10 years.
