March 23rd

Today we are starting a month called 25 Acts of Energy Conservation. Each day this month we will be posting conservation ideas for saving energy, water and reducing waste. Join us by acting to conserve, find a creative way to tell us what you have done, and enter to win up to $1000 for your school.

Our 25 Acts tip for today is:
If our school turned off lights when not needed:
We would save 6920 kgCO2/year
That’s equivalent to planting 35 trees

Save 8760 kWh/year, compared to using T8 fluorescent lighting an extra 4 hours per day.

Week 1: Day 1

Day 1:
Today we are starting a month called 25 Acts of Energy Conservation. Each day this month we will be hearing conservation ideas for saving energy, water and reducing waste. This year, we have been (insert your campaign here) to help the environment. This month we are celebrating our hard work and the importance of a healthy environment by entering our project to win up to $1000. SaskEnergy and the Saskatchewan Environmental Society are supporting us to make Earth Hour and Earth Day into a month of action for a healthy environment.

Act 1:
Check the classrooms in your school. Are all the lights on even on a sunny day? Try turning on only the lights that students need to work comfortably. Sometimes that means you will only have half the lights on in your classroom! Challenge other classes to turn off their unnecessary lighting.
